anointing of the sick

If you or a loved one is in need of the Sacrament of the Sick, please call the office at (309) 755-5071.

Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the priests of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint [him] with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven.
— James 5:14-15

By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord.

By His passion and death on the cross, Christ has brought a new meaning to suffering. Suffering is now a way in which we can be more closely united with Christ and by the anointing with oil and the laying on of the priest's hands, the sick person receives special grace which strengthens and encourages those who are ill to endure with patience their vocation to participate in the saving mission of Christ the Lord. This Sacrament is also a source of grace for those who are preparing for the final journey from this life into the Father's house.
